Top Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish

"Top Ten Tuesday" is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Sorry for the late post today, guys! I was so excited and ended up D-E-A-D yesterday because it seemed like the entire kpop industry agreed to drop a teaser or a music video or a stage performance all at once. That sounds lame but you have no idea how it gets when you stan so many bands and fangirl with so much emotion haha.

Anyways, this week's topic is easy because I'm always bad at completing series :| It's an ancient curse that I have been burdened with since before I was born. Only a few Chosen Ones have been seen through until the very end like the Percy Jackson series and Harry Potter. But here are the series that continue to face the trials and tribulations of being started by a multifandom reader ~

1. The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan - Ah, yes, I love The Heroes of Olympus series! The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades and um..... [looks at smudged writing on hand] The Boo of Odysseus? Haha but seriously, I started it in October 2014 and it's so slooooowww and long that I still haven't finished it.

2. Anna and the French Kiss series by Stephanie Perkins - I don't know why I can't bring myself to continue? I loved Anna so much, I have this fear at the back of mind that the other 2 can't compare.

3. Penryn & the End of Days series by Susan Ee - I don't like how center stage the romance is in the last book but I'm still gonna pull through and finish this series. But I can safely say that the first book was the only one that really struck me with how amazing it was.

4. Delirium series by Lauren Oliver - I was spoiled about the ending and it was SO disappointing but I can't say I'll never finish this series because I still want to find out how it ends like that but.....still: WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END LIKE THAT?

5. Luxe series by Anna Godbersen  - As dramatic as the plot can be, the first book was very enjoyable and full of an "entertaining" kind of angst. I haven't been in the mood for historical romances lately but when I am, this will be the first series I'll continue.

6. Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead - I liked how Shadow Kiss ended but Blood Promise started off so slow and there are so many new characters being thrown in! I honestly just enjoy Lissa/Adrian's parts, otherwise I don't know how I'll be able to finish and move on :/
7. Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness - I loved the heck out of the first book and I own the other 2 books but there so huge and my attention span only seems to be growing smaller  #PrayForJu

8. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor - The first book has such beautiful, lyrical writing but it's so hard for me to focus and get a good grasp of the plot when I'm too busy admiring the words! I think this is what we call "purple prose" except I'm not annoyed with it.

9. The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken - I liked the first book but I wasn't that impressed or blown away. The thing is, everyone keeps telling me that it gets better (y'know like the Throne of Glass series all over again). I don't feel like continuing but if you guys agree that it gets tons better then please let me know!

10. Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin - I wasn't a fan of the first book because the characters were so cliche and Noah was too perfect to be taken seriously (except that he was also a jerk) BUT the thriller and mystery aspects made me curious about what happens to Mara in the end. I know a lot of people didn't like the conclusion but I'm too curious and it might just kill me one day.

SO, that's all the completed series that I need to complete as soon as I can. Tell me if you liked a particular series and think I should read it first! Or if you think I shouldn't bother with a series, then speak your mind about that too. Don't forget to link to your own TTT :")

  3. OHMYGOD YOU NEED TO FINISH THE DARKEST MINDS TRILOGY. LIKE NOW. what i love most about this series is that it get better. with dystopians, they often fall short with endings but in the afterlight is so so so good. please read it. PLEASE. i've finished most of these and that's the biggest one that's like GO AWAY AND READ NOW.

the delirium series progressively gets worse in my opinion, so um, i wouldn't put that at the top of your tbr. i love this list!! xxx alexandra @ twirlingpages (http://twirlingpages.com)

    1. Your enthusiasm for The Darkest Minds really got to me aaaahh! It's true that dystopians tend to dissolve at the end but it's good to hear that this one gets better?! :D

      And I'm really re-thinking Delirium too.... :/

  4. I've read The Darkest Minds and loved it, but I haven't ventured much into Never Fade. I started reading it, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it, so I quit. Maybe I'll try again someday, maybe I won't. I don't know yet.

    1. Ah that's an opinion that I haven't seen a lot. Maybe it's a slow beginning? Maybe we'll both get around to reading it one day...

  5. So many series, so little time. I remember not liking the ending of The Luxe so you are not missing much there. However, as much as I loved Anna and the French Kiss, I did like the other two books as well. Happy reading!

    my Top Ten Tuesday!

  6. This is a fantastic list! We have so many books in common on our lists. And this reminded me that I still need to read Anna and the French Kiss and the Luxe series. I've had those on my shelf for ages!
    Great post! :)

  7. You sooo made me forget about a ton of other books I could've included! GIRL You seriously need to continue The Chaos Walking Trilogy because omg things get so damn intense. I cried at the end of the second and third book lol. I just purchased The Evolution of Mara Dyer so that I can finish this series. I loved TUOMD, so I'm excited to see where it goes. I have DOSAB but I need to find a good month where I can binge read the whole trilogy because these books are not small honey! Andd . . . as you can see I'm trying to comment on everything you listed but I can't remember all the books and scrolling back & forth is killing me lmao. Great list Ju!

    1. I hope you remembered them D: afahgjdkgkj i cried so much at a certain death scene in The Knife Of Letting Go, how am i gonna survive the other 2? I think binge-reading DOSAB is the best wa to go so you don't forget all the important details wrapped up in the writing!

Hehe, sorry for all the scrolling you had to do xD Thanks for stopping by Martika!

    1. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series + The Darkest Minds trilogy seem like series that are best read altogether so you don't miss out on all the teeny details! Good luck to both of us ha.

  9. Blood Promise is the weakest book in The Vampire Academy series. I stan hard for this series and even I didn't like it much. However, the pace picks up after this one. If you can manage to get though this one, I promise you won't be disappointed!

I loved Angelfall because even though there was romance, it was in the backseat. I'm saddened to hear, it takes a centre stage later on in the series. Hopefully, I'll still be able to enjoy it.

I felt like I was the only one who had a few issues with The Unbecoming of Mara Dyers. I'm glad to know I'm not alone anymore. I was a lot harsher than you though. I gave it one star. Noah ruined the whole book for me. I wasn't even able to really understand his ability. Also, perhaps it's just me, but I thought the ending was a major let down.

    1. Really? I guess Blood Promise was just building up for the last 2 books then :)

I think I gave The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer 3 stars but to be honest, that was kind of nice of me now that I think about it too...the abilities were barely explained and it kind of felt like a damper that all the mysterious hallucinations were just caused by something supernatural.

  10. Ohhh, man, your post reminded me how many series there are out there that I haven't finished and haven't even started yet! I remember reading DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE and loving it, and then pausing my read of the second book because I had to get to an ARC quickly because its publication date was nearing. I really need to take some time off reading ARCs to get to those me-books (DoMaB, the Angelfall series <--- thankfully I bought the whole trilogy for this one!!!). And yes, the Vampire Academy series too! So many books, so little time :((

    1. EXACTLY, FAYE! There are so many new books that I've barely got time to think about the old series D: Good thing you got the whole Angelfall series, now you can marathon the series and feel all the suspense together :D

  11. OMG OMG OMG SO I have been LOOKING for the Luxe series for years!! I read the first one about 4/5 years ago back in my library days but at the time my library didn't have the rest of the series. After that I completely forgot the name of the author and kept spelling it 'Lux' whenever I searched for it online :') Despite all that, I'm not sure if I'll read the rest of the series, I remember one of my favourite characters dying way too early and I'm still not ok with that. Great Top Ten Tuesday Juwairiya!

  12. You MUST continue Vampire Academy! I love that series so much; and the books get better and better, even Blood Promise. That's more the Rose's character journey book. It's heartbreaking but wonderful. Requiem was SO bad, just pass. I still haven't finished Mara Dyer series either. ITA was a pretty good end to TDM although it's slow in parts. I hope you finish some of these!! :)

    1. Hmm, I do think Rose's character needs a lot of development so I maybe I should try and finish Blood Promise :) OMG I WISH I KNEW ABOUT REQUIEM BEFORE I BOUGHT IT D:

  13. I am reading this SO LATE--but I REALLY loved this TTT! I cannot believe you haven't finished the Heroes of Olympus series yet! Get to reading that, Ju! XD And can I just say that I do not think that the Delirium trilogy is worth finishing. I loved the first two books, but the last one makes me so angry that I better stop talking about it before this turns into a full blown rant. The Darkest Minds, however, is SO WORTH finishing! I LOVE that series with all of my heart. And I understand what you mean about the Mara Dyer book, but I still adore them. I actually really liked the ending, although it also didn't seem to really...fit with the books' tone? Does that make sense? Anyway, I'm going to say again that I thought this was an AWESOME TTT!

    1. WILL I EVER FINISH THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS??!! haha I don't think so. I really regret buying Requiem now D: Thank you so much Erin! Your comment was so sweet aww

  14. Let's see... out of these I've only finished the Luxe series, Vampire Academy, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The rest, I'm in the same boat as you, I've only started them haha. Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series but I am a little biased :P Luxe is definitely dramatic, but like you said, entertaining. I'm pretty sure I was upset with how that series ended though. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is worth finishing, although they can be slow reads sometimes-but worth it.

    1. Ahh, sad to hear that the Luxe series didn't end that great D: I hate when series start off so well but don't finish off grandly too. Yess, I need to move and finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone already! It's been years omg

  15. I'd say finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone- EVEN THOUGH I HAVEN'T! So I really can't say that. I've only read the first book, too, which I just loved so much. A couple of these I'm kinda surprised, after reading your thoughts on them, that you're actually wanting to continue with- they just don't sound like they were great reads for you- but at the same time, sometimes you can not wholly love a book/series and still want to continue, because the world or the characters or the possibility is enough to keep you wanting more.

Mara Dyer was really good for me (I had a surprising soft spot for Noah), but the ending wasn't so great for me. And I read, I think, the first and a quarter of the second in the Luxe books, and that was really different reading and enjoyable, but not something I felt like continuing with. The drama was too much!

    1. Wow, Romi your opinion was so refreshing. It's true that sometimes I just want to pretend my unfinished series don't exist and move on but that potential just keeps you hooked argh.

Haha I know what you mean about the Luxe drama being too much, it was such a soap opera xD

  16. You have to finish reading Angelfall and Vampire Academy! The first and second books of Angelfall were amazing, the final installment not so much though. VA series gets better as it goes on, so don't give up now xD I didn't finish the Mara Dyer series as well, the first boom was good and the second was a disaster for me :( Too many weird plot twists lol hope you finish reading some of these soon <3 Benish | Feminist Reflections

    1. Yeah, I'm having this bad feeling about Angelfall's conclusion :( Ahh, this is why I'm worried about the Mara Dyer series too! It seemed like a psychological thriller but then it flipped a whole 180 degrees and became something about supernatural mojo *sigh*

  17. I ADORE Rick Riordan, but I have to agree with you on Blood of Olympus. It's slow as heck and entirely disappointing. :( It just didn't have the same spark as Riordan's other books!

I haven't been spoiled on the end of Requiem (YET), but I gave up after the second book because the love triangle killed a couple of my brain cells, and Oliver's writing in that trilogy = not for me.

Whaaaaat?! Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series ever. Then again, I read it back in 2011/2012 when I was still a newbie reader. ;) ANYWAY, I actually hate Lissa a lot--Adrian, though, much love.

I also stopped on book one in DoSaB (but I will continue at some point!!!), The Darkest Minds (I loved the first but haven't felt like reading the sequels) and Mara Dyer (characters = NO).

    1. PHew, someone who agrees with me about Blood of Olympus! It really did feel like all the spark was gone...and Mara Dyer characters were so cliche to me too haha they do = NO.
